Subject: mealworm feeding
I plan on feeding meal worms on my trail to help theWEBL through the cold and
wet spells we have here every spring, I lost about 90% of the nestling's in the
first nesting last year because of bad weather and don't want a repeat of that.
I have one WEBL nest with six eggs due to hatch about May 20 that I have been
giving 10-15 mealworms every day. The weather has been cool and cloudy but not
much rain to speak of. My question is; When the eggs hatch and the weather gets
wet and windy, how many and how often should I feed? Two or three times a day?
How many would they eat at one feeding? Getting to this box requires a half mile
steep uphill walk and that willl probably be the nearest one, have three others
with nests but no eggs yet, they will require about two miles round trip!!!
So I am ready to do a whole lot of hiking to save these babies and would
greatly appreciate any advice you can give me.
