 irst ever 'Milkweed and Cookies' event on September 16th from 1:00PM to 3:
 00PM at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs\, Iowa.  This eve
 nt will be two parts: a native plant give-away program and a vendor fair. 
  The public will have the opportunity to preregister for a 12-pack of nati
 ve plants that have been customized for either shade or sun based on their
  selection.  We are limiting the garden give-away to one per household.  T
 he first 100 households to sign-up are eligible to participate in the Milk
 weed and Cookies event.  Participants will be split into two groups: 'shad
 e' and 'sun' based on their garden requests.  One group will participate i
 n a 1-hour seminar to learn more about their plants and how to successfull
 y garden with native species\, while the other group browses the vendor fa
 ir.  After the first hour\, the groups will switch.  The plant giveaway is
  limited to 100 households\, but all members of the household are invited 
 to the event - this includes children. \nThe name of the event 'Milkweed a
 nd Cookies' reflects the time of year with the monarch migration and the i
 mportance of milkweed for the monarch's survival. The Pollinator Alliance 
 of the Heartland is a 501c3 non-profit organization that focuses on pollin
 ator conservation\, native plant gardening\, and education.  Cookies and r
 efreshments will be available during the event.
