UPDATE: Registration is now closed. Conor says there is no ice left on the lake so waterfowl including mergansers, goldeneye, and other duck species are spread out in groups around the lake. We’ll also be looking for songbirds like bluebirds and winter sparrows that are active around the shore.

Get ready for a birding treat at 9 a.m. February 17, at Lake Manawa. Conor Gearin will share his extensive knowledge as he leads us to the best spots to watch waterfowl. We will observe waterfowl in the lake from a stationary spot on shore. This will likely include ducks congregating together in "rafts" as well as solitary birds such as Goldeneye and other diving ducks that we find foraging for fish away from the main group of birds.

Spotting scopes are encouraged, but binoculars will work, too! We will observe waterfowl in the lake from a stationary spot on shore. This will likely include ducks congregating together in "rafts" as well as solitary birds such as goldeneye and other diving ducks that we find foraging for fish away from the main group of birds. Overwintering Bald Eagles are also possible. Weather permitting and if the group has interest, we can add on a short walk on level dirt paths near the shore to look for winter songbirds such as sparrows and finches.

Register early for this educational outing. The best viewing location will be determined prior to the trip and emailed to all registered attendees.
