Member Program: Let's Talk Turkey

Thursday, November 9, 2023
5:30 pm8:00 pm

November is the time of year we start thinking about roasting big birds for family gatherings. But the domesticated Butterball is a much different bird than the turkeys who roam free in our area. The wild turkey population in Nebraska has dropped 45% since 2009. Find out how a $2 million grant is helping researchers bring back Nebraska’s favorite game bird.

Join us at 6 p.m. for Dinner and a Movie with the PBS documentary, My Life as a Turkey, chronicling naturalist Joe Hutto as he raises a clutch of wild turkeys. (Doors open at 5:30 p.m.)

Our guest speaker at 7 p.m. is Mark Vrtiska, Ph. D. , Wildlife Management Specialist, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, School of Natural Resources. Dr. Vrtiska will share updates on the 3-year study that began this year.

This program is free and open to the public. Invite your friends, and please register!
