The Pollinator Alliance of the Heartland will be hosting its first ever "Milkweed and Cookies" event on September 16th from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa. This event will be two parts: a native plant give-away program and a vendor fair. The public will have the opportunity to preregister for a 12-pack of native plants that have been customized for either shade or sun based on their selection. We are limiting the garden give-away to one per household. The first 100 households to sign-up are eligible to participate in the Milkweed and Cookies event. Participants will be split into two groups: "shade" and "sun" based on their garden requests. One group will participate in a 1-hour seminar to learn more about their plants and how to successfully garden with native species, while the other group browses the vendor fair. After the first hour, the groups will switch. The plant giveaway is limited to 100 households, but all members of the household are invited to the event - this includes children.
The name of the event "Milkweed and Cookies" reflects the time of year with the monarch migration and the importance of milkweed for the monarch's survival. The Pollinator Alliance of the Heartland is a 501c3 non-profit organization that focuses on pollinator conservation, native plant gardening, and education. Cookies and refreshments will be available during the event.
